Land Ahoy!

Friday 15 July, 0750 Norwegian time, 10nm to go

Fog, fog, fog...with the only change being how far you could not see...varying between 30 and 500 meters...they shouldn't have called this place Iceland, but Fogland!
It meant that we didn't see the island of Grimsey, even though we passed it at only 8.5nm, nor did we see the cliffs of Iceland as we turned into Eyjafjordur around 0345, the deep and 35nm long fjord at the south point of which Akureyri lies.
We didn't see land until well into the fjord at 0430 when the fog slowly started to lift a bit. It's overcast now, but at least it's clear at sealevel...
It reveals a neat and tidy countryside sofar on the edge of the cliffs, parted with a great number of waterfalls, streaming down from the numerous glaciers (hidden by the fog!) and lots of white dots...sheep!

Unfortunately, the fog has also meant no sightings of humpback whales, despite this north coast being famous for it. Bummer. Although, Camilla and Jarl did get to see one not 10 minutes ago! Boogs and I were navigating and plotting our position on the chart, so no luck for us.
Ah well, plenty of time on our trip from here to Greenland next week!

8am now, so time for the next plot.
Next blog: landbased!
